The initiation of the academic year in August means, for seniors, that the college admissions process has officially begun. One of the most important factors in the admissions process is the submission of college entrance exams, known to most students as the four-hour long SAT and ACT tests. There are various testing sites and dates for students to take them locally and any time throughout the year.
The College Board, the company who makes the the SAT exam, offers testing fee waivers for students who need them. Secretary of the College and Career Center, Mrs. Pamela Binford has test fee waivers. Her office is located in A-Hall, if you need one. She would be more than happy to help you out.
“If a student qualifies for free and reduced lunch, then they also qualify to receive a test fee waiver, which allows them to take the SAT test free of charge.” said Pamela Binford.

The SAT test is offered a total of seven times in the United States. The test dates are: 10/5/2013, 11/2/2013, 12/7/2013, 1/25/2014, 3/8/2014, 5/3/2014, 6/7/2014. There are many testing sites one of the more popular ones for students in the Carrollton - Farmers Branch is at Newman Smith High School. Be sure to plan ahead and choose a test date that is punctual for your application(s) deadlines.
What is one goal every student should have going into the SATs? “Every student should have a goal of studying preferably for two months in advance, but at least for a month,” said Mrs. Binford. There is plenty of practice you can find online (sat.collegeboard.org), but if you prefer the traditional book work, the library or any book vendor will probably have just what you need.
If you need any other information don’t be shy. ASK! After all, no one can help you if you don’t ask.
