Lady Gaga
By Eunice Lemus
Lady Gaga's Artpop was released November 11, 2013. The outspoken artist has always been comfortable showing her true colors, and this album is no exception.
"It's really good and when I listen to it, I feel like dancing," said Julissa Ontiveros, sophomore.
Despite the music, Lady Gaga's album was banned from China for being too provocative. After making a couple of changes to the album cover and to the name of the song "Sexxx Dreams," they finally approved of the album. Lady Gaga then tweeted the news happily.
"I honestly don't care if she's naked or not because it's her decision and it's her life. She can do what she wants," Julissa said.
Lady Gaga was not always the person that everybody knows now. Originally, her name was Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. By the age of 4, she had learned how to play the piano. Seeing her talent, the Juilliard School granted her early admission at the age of 11. Deciding to take a different route, Gaga turned down the Juilliard admission and went to a catholic school. At 13 years of age, she wrote her first piano ballad and performed it at a nightclub a year later.

"No I'm not surprised. Everyone can be good at something, but they just have to find what they're good at," Julissa said.
Years later, Gaga attended NYU Tisch School of Arts. In search of inspiration, Lady Gaga left school and joined Interscope Records as a song writer for other artists in 2007. It wasn't until 2008 when Lady Gaga finally released her album, The Fame, followed a year later as an extended version called The Fame Monster. This album contained hit singles such as "Bad Romance," "Telephone," "Alejandro," and "Dance in the Dark."
"If she wanted to leave her career then that's her decision and she did make the right decision because now she inspires a lot of people," Julissa said.
The album Born This Way was released May 23, 2011. Though it's main focus is in dance-pop and synth-pop, Gaga's music also contains electronic rock and techno. Throughout this album, the lyrics talk about individualism, sexuality, religion, and feminism.
"She just naturally has that gift where she can inspire people to be their own person and she's also teaching that no matter who we are we can still like the same things," Julissa said/
Though Lady Gaga has a large fan base, there are many who disagree with her music, lyrics, and her gender.
"I don't like her music because everybody sings that way," said Juana Sanchez, a senior.
Lady Gaga chooses to stand out and be different. Despite the harsh remarks, Gaga continues to be herself.
"She's an inspiration to be different and makes you want to be bold," said Alexis White, junior.
