Early December 1st in Johnson County, the body of Wanda Buckley Davis was found in the debris of a previously three-story home that exploded late November 30th. Davis’ husband was away at the time of the explosion, but foul play is not suspected. Authorities believe that the explosion was caused by a propane leak in the basement of the couple’s home. Regardless of cause, the house is still spectacularly flattened, with nothing remaining but scattered debris over the 15-acre property. Police received calls from as far as 17 miles away reporting witness to an explosion.

On December 8th, Ukrainian protestors managed to topple and behead a statue of Soviet State founder Vladimir Lenin as a statement condemning the Ukrainian president’s future plans to strengthen ties with Russia. The Ukrainian president, Yanukovych, stresses that the recent trade deals and presidential meetings with Russia were purely for economic purposes, but Ukrainians worry that the countries are preparing to band back together to reform a kind of Soviet Union, what they fear will revert the country to a time when Russian leaders were not reluctant to starve Ukrainians to serve the ideals of a warped Communism. While the statue has been destroyed, protestors stress being peaceful, and have established a blockade of tents around the site in Independence Square. Despite police efforts to quiet the situation, the demonstrators have not moved from their place (as of December 11th).

It was yet another loss for the Dallas Cowboys in their own home. The Green Bay packers won against Cowboys 37 to 36. Although it was a good game, the Cowboys almost had this game, they are desperate and angry that they lost by one point. It will appear that they still have not lost all hope and want to desperately won their next game. The Cowboys need to step up their game and think carefully about what to do in their next game. Shouting and running won’t help if they don’t have a plan ahead of time.

Paul Walker's Death     By: Scarlett Madrid

During the afternoon of November 30, 2013, we were all either settling in after our thanksgiving festivities or getting ready to party again while others were preparing to be the barer of the bad news. Then it hit, world wide. All over the news. " 40-year-old actor Paul Walker has been in a car accident in Valencia, Santa Clarita, California." Just after attending a charity event for the victims of the typhoon in the Philipines, Paul Walker was riding along-side with a friend in a Porsche when the driver lost control and the car hit a light pole and a tree, shortly after it bursted into flames. Sadly they both had died the very moment the car caught on fire. Yes so sudden and yes our very own Brian O'Connor. His death came too fast and left many too furious.

The Winds of the Holidays

By: Eunice Lemuz

The carol of the holiday season filled with the sound of sleigh bells and the sound of hooves on the roof. Most people are aware of the holidays peeking just around the corner. The Turner Band had their holiday concert Tuesday, December 10th.

People are raving about the songs played in the concert.

"I like Winterfest because the flutes sound so pretty and cheerful," said Julissa Ontiveros, sophomore.

However, there were features of a few select members of the band that really stood out. Many people enjoyed the saxophone quartet.

"The Saxophone Quartet sounded very beautiful and melodic. It gave me goosebumps," said Julissa.
