The High School season of soccer is finally here. The RLT varsity girls have been waiting patiently, working hard all year.
January 7, the girls had their first game against J. Northwest at Perry Middle School. The girls are short on players due to players being out of town. They pulled up two Junior Varsity players to help them out. Still the girls were only playing with one substitution, the game was a hard battle and the girls came out with a 0-1 loss.
"This is for us to have fun work on positioning and see where we're at as a team and I was very pleased with what I saw."
Come support our girls through the season as they continue their journey to success, said Coach Maher, head coach of the varsity girls.
Scam Alert!

A well known shopping center for many americans, Target has been involved in a breaking news; massive data breach through this holiday season.
Target warns costumers of phishing emails after "hackers stole 40 million credit cards." The favorites chain store announced that hackers broke into the system stealing debit and credit card information such as; the name, card number, expiration date, and the three digit security code on the cards.
Company CEO explained the security breach in a video posted on the company website, apologizing and offering a discount to effected shoppers. Target also warned costumers to check their bank accounts.
The problems claims to be fixed and apparently shoppers didn't even know or were unaffected in the aftermath “I used my credit card inside today and I know that it's safer than a debit card because my provider watches for it and I watch my statements. I don’t think they will lose business from this scandal.”
Brain Death Controversy
By: Rachel Johnson

Two court cases occurring simultaneously have resurfaced controversies about the ethics and science behind brain death. Is somebody truly dead when their brain has died but their body continues to function? In Fort Worth, both Marlise Munoz’s parents and husband seek to turn her machine off, while in Oakland California Nailah Winkfield pleads for her daughter Jahi to be allowed to continue to be connected to a ventilator. Both girls have been declared legally brain-dead, and according to ubiquitous policy in all 50 states, are in effect considered legally dead. However, both patients’ hearts continue to beat from the help of pacemakers and ventilators, and both are being subject to unwanted decisions. Jahi McMath’s parents have hope that she can recover, while the Munoz family doesn’t believe that Marlise would want to be a mother under the circumstances. There are tests that can be done to ensure brain life vs. death, but doctors stress that brain death is almost always certainly final.
Money Over Law

Treating rich people better than the poor is not good for society. It can cause even more problems than there are out there already. Some people have gotten away from jail just because they were wealthy enough to buy their freedom.
For example, 16 year old Ethan Couch was behind the wheel while drunk, three times the legal limit, killing 4 pedestrians and seriously injuring 2 others on June 15, 2013 in Forth Worth, Texas. Instead of getting 20 years in prison for his actions, he will instead face just 10 years of probation as well as intensive therapy.
“This guy is lucky and too wealthy to not get 20 years in prison, killing four people, drinking and driving at a young age is instant prison if you ask me,” said Luis Valderrama, junior.

Ethan’s defendants argument that, he was suffering from “affluenza” meaning that he was too wealthy to know the consequences of his actions, to tell from right and wrong. And said that it will be best for him to take intensive therapy for two years away from his parents, After that the judge agree and put him in a 10 year probation, now the one dealing with the problem is his dad, he will be paying $450,000 a year cost of his treatment.
“This person is suffering from affluenza? Does that even exist, because i never heard of something like that, I think that it’s all part of the plan to not get him in jail,” said Olga Vazques, junior.
This is not the first time he’s gotten away with something like this, When he was 15, cops discovered him passed out with a naked 14 year old girl in his car, yet he suffered no consequences. He was allowed to drive at the age of 13 and lived alone in a big mansion his dad bought for him.
In other words Ethan has gotten away more than once, and many people are outrageous to know that the judge decided to put him in a 10 year probation, the family of those who were killed are shock, they wanted him to spent 20 years in jail but the judge decided otherwise. Either Couch is very lucky or too rich to get away from those kind of problems.
PSV Review

Sony's latest handheld gaming console, the PS Vita, made it's debut in North America on February 22nd, 2012. Is this successor to the PSP worth the upgrade? The ARM Cortex A9 CPU processor allows for the worlds in games to be beautifully brought to life on the crystal-clear 5 inch OLED touch screen. This screen is capable of displaying approximately 16 million colors which really brings out the environments of the game. An interesting new feature the PS Vita boasts is the rear touchpad which offers a new way to play. It's responsive controls open up great opportunity for developers to make innovative games. Not only can the PS Vita connect to the internet through Wi-Fi, but if you get the 3G/Wi-Fi model, you can connect via 3G network. This means the player will be able to make online purchases, watch Youtube, and anything else that requires internet connection anywhere that has 3G service. The PS Vita has a strong lineup of good games. Some of which include Uncharted: Golden Abyss, The Walking Dead, Killzone: Mercenary, Terraria, and many more. Through the online store, users can buy PS Vita games, PSP games, original PS1 games, games from indie developers, movies, TV shows, music, comics, and backgrounds. This wide variety of multimedia could bring hours of entertainment to your fingertips. The only downside to this device are the memory cards. These memory cards are made specifically for the PS Vita, meaning you won't be able to plug one up to a computer except through the PS Vita. However, this is a very minor issue. With the price of $199.99, this handheld gaming machine will provide many forms of entertainment on the go. It offers some very fun games, and a wide variety of media to choose from. The PS Vita is defiantly worth the upgrade.

The Fray: Helios
By: Eunice Lemus
The Fray's new album, Helios, will be released February 25 of 2014. The album's lead single, "Love Don't Die," was released on the 21 of October, 2013. The band, seeking to expand the horizons, decided to do something different from their usual sound. They made their circle of songwriters open to others and added electronic instruments, drum samples, and backing vocals. The sound is relatively similar to OneRepublic, which deters some from listening to it. However, many critics state that the album is worth listening to.

Recently if you turn on your TV you're bound to see something about pop singer Justin Bieber. Justin is wreaking havoc in the media with multiple incidences raising controversy about him. Bieber has a troubled timeline of events he was involved in including, settling a suit with his body guard who said the singer hit him, photographed smoking weed, and showing up two hours late to a show in London. Even right before 2014 kicked off, Bieber threatened to retire after a ton of bad publicity, this news made beliebers very disappointed. J.B Trouble Maker "phase"?

Venezuela
By: Rachel Johnson

Building tensions between Venezuela’s citizens and government have finally reached a boiling point as of February 12th when police apprehended peaceful protestors with violence, killing three students. One government supporter has been reported dead, and many have been left injured. Demonstrations do not appear to be letting up in Caracas as the violence contributes to the protestors’ upset with their government’s control of their dwindling economy, absence of protection for freedom of speech, and a lack of security that allowed, for example, Monica Spear (soap opera star and former Miss Venezuela) and her husband to be robbed and murdered when seeking roadside assistance on the highway. Government supporters argue that the protestors are “fascists,” causing the problems they argue need to be solved. On Tuesday the leader of the opposition, Leopoldo Lopez, willingly handed himself over to authorities. “One of the options I had was to leave the country, but I am never leaving Venezuela!” Lopez is quoted as saying before police detained him. He awaits a court appearance in military prison as his followers continue to protest.
